The Channel Islands' branch of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations recently came runner up in the Industry's awards, which celebrate the efforts of individual regional groups.
This is impressive, considering the CI branch is the smallest of all fourteen regions that represent the CIPR through the British Isles and that it was only formed towards the end of 2008.
Crystal's Adam, as the former training and education officer of the CI group, was instrumental in not only kick-starting the process of bringing local practitioners together to network and meet key media and industry figures, but also in launching the CIPR Diploma in the CIs.
The efforts of the CIPR locally will undoubtedly have a positive impact in driving the standards of public relations higher and ensuring members are able to share best practices and latest ideas with clients and other practitioners.
This in turn will help to build the profile of public relations as a profession and demonstrate to clients the value an effective public relations function can add to an organisation.
Over recent years the CIPR has been preoccupied with establishing PR as a management function, rather than just a promotional 'add-on'. Increasing standards and proving its value at boardroom level will no doubt continue to be a challenge for the Industry.
More qualified, high calibre people practicing locally, however, should play a role in furthering the cause for PR representation at a senior level within firms in the Channel Islands also.
